الراهب (بالإنجليزية: The Monk) هي رواية قوطية من تأليف ماثيو غريغوري لويس نشرت عام 1796. وهي من الروايات التي كتبها لويس بسرعة في بدايات حياته المهنية (فزعم في إحدى الرسائل أنه أنجزها خلال عشرة أسابيع، ولكن أشارت مراسلات أخرى إلى مباشرته للعمل عليها على الأقل، قبل بضعة سنوات). وقد نشرت قبل أن بلغ لويس العشرين من العمر.

The Monk: A Romance is a Gothic novel by Matthew Gregory Lewis, published in 1796. A quickly written book from early in Lewis's career (in one letter he claimed to have written it in ten weeks, but other correspondence suggests that he had at least started it, or something similar, a couple of years earlier), it was published before he turned twenty. It is a prime example of the male Gothic that specialises in the aspect of horror. Its convoluted and scandalous plot has made it one of the most important Gothic novels of its time, often imitated and adapted for the stage and the screen.

Primo e più famoso romanzo scritto dall'autore britannico, allora appena ventenne, raccolse immediatamente un grande successo, accompagnato però da un grande scandalo. Il romanzo infatti, rifacendosi alla tradizione del romanzo gotico tedesco, contiene ed esaspera tutti gli elementi propri del genere: castelli, abbazie, fantasmi e, soprattutto, violenze, stupri, incesti, presenze demoniache.Le varie critiche portarono così l'autore a pubblicare nel 1798 una versione rivista dell'opera nella quale vennero tolte o censurate alcune delle situazioni più scabrose.
