Krzyż z Ruthwell – kamienny krzyż anglosaski z miejscowości (południowa Szkocja). Krzyż powstał w swej pierwotnej postaci w VIII w. W czasie akcji niszczenia takich krzyży i posągów w latach 1642-1664 został uratowany dzięki ówczesnemu merowi Ruthwell, Gavinowi Youngowi, który nakazał rozłamanie krzyża na kilka części i ukrycie ich pod podłogą miejscowego kościoła. Części odnalezione przez w 1799 r., zostały przezeń z powrotem złożone w trakcie ćwierćwiecza prac rekonstrukcyjnych i od 1887 r. krzyż znowu stoi w kościele w Ruthwell.

Das Kreuz von Ruthwell (engl. Ruthwell Cross) ist ein angelsächsisches Steinkreuz im Stil eines irischen Hochkreuzes. Es stammt möglicherweise aus dem 8. Jahrhundert, als Ruthwell, in Dumfries and Galloway gelegen, durch Eroberungen des christlichen Königs Eadberht (737–758) Teil des angelsächsischen Königreiches Northumbria in Schottland war. Es war möglicherweise ein Gebetskreuz auf einem Pilgerweg, vielleicht vom Solway Firth zum Kloster von Hoddom, doch gibt es keinen Hafen in der Umgebung. The cross was smashed by Presbyterian iconoclasts in 1642, and the pieces left in the churchyard until they were restored and re-erected in the manse garden in 1823 by Henry Duncan. In 1887 it was moved into its current location inside Ruthwell church, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, when the apse which holds it was specially built. It was designated a scheduled monument in 1921, but had this removed in 2018, due to it being in a controlled, safe environment and not needed scheduling.

Obecność tekstu runicznego jest tu tym bardziej frapująca, że najpierw (jeszcze w VIII w.) wykuto napis alfabetem łacińskim, potem ustawiono krzyż pionowo i – jak wykazują osobliwości kształtu run – dopiero wtedy tekst runiczny został wykuty na krzyżu już osadzonym pionowo w ziemi. Tak więc tekst pismem runicznym został dodany dopiero po pewnym czasie, jak się przypuszcza na podstawie porównania go z oryginalnym brzmieniem utworu Sen o krzyżu, dopiero w X w. Nie jest jasne, dlaczego posłużono się wówczas pismem runicznym.
