Die Umgebung Osmangazis ist seit schätzungsweise 4000 vor Christus besiedelt. Die erste Erwähnung findet sich ca. 700 v. Chr. mit Bezug auf die Landschaft Mysien.Im Nordosten des Landkreises befindet sich die Demirtaş-Talsperre. Seit einer Gebietsreform 2013 ist der Ilçe (Landkreis) flächen- und einwohnermäßig identisch mit der Kreisstadt. Die 110 Mahalles (Stadtteile) der Kreisstadt (Ilçe merkezi) blieben erhalten, zusätzlich wurden die 27 Dörfer Köy in Mahalles umgewandelt. Somit stieg die Anzahl der Mahalles für diesen Ilçe auf 137.

Une association de restauration œuvre à la conservation de ce riche patrimoine.
