La mitopoeia (o mitopoiesis, del griego helenístico μυθοποιία, μυθοποίησις "elaboración de mitos") es un género narrativo en el cual el autor crea todo un conjunto de conceptos, regiones, personajes, sucesos, y arquetipos interrelacionados creando una mitología propia. Esta acepción de la palabra Mitopoeia recibe su significado de su utilización por parte de J. R. R. Tolkien en la década de 1930.
