Mesembria (altgriechisch Μεσημβρία, auch Μεσαμβρία, latinisiert Mesembria, bulgarisch Месембрия) war eine antike und mittelalterliche Stadt an der Stelle des heutigen Nessebar in Bulgarien. Die Stadt liegt am westlichen Schwarzen Meer, am nördlichen Ausgang des Golfs von Burgas, unweit des Balkangebirges. In der Antike lag Mesembria an der Küstenstraße Via Pontica.

Flavi Arrià, autor del Periple del Pont Euxí diu que fou fundada pels calcedoni al temps de l'expedició de Darios II a Escítia, però Heròdot diu que la van fundar una mica després, una vegada dominada la Revolta Jònica (vers 494 aC) els calcedonis fugitius; és possible que simplement l'antiga colònia fóra refundada. Mesèmbria va formar una Pentàpolis grega a l'Euxí amb altres ciutats: Odessos, Tomi, Istriani i Apol·loniates. No fou teatre de cap fet especialment destacat a la seva història antiga. El 71 aC va passar a Roma com a i va romandre en poder de romans i romans d'Orient fins al 812 quan fou ocupada pels búlgars, que l'hagueren de retornar el 864, però la van recuperar poc anys després. El 1366 fou ocupada pels croats dirigits per Amadeu VI de Savoia i restituïda als romans d'Orient. El 1453 va caure en mans dels otomans i va començar a decaure. El nom eslau Nessèbar es va imposar i es va confirmar quan el 1878 Bulgària va passar a formar part del principat autònom de la Rumèlia Oriental i el 1886 es va unir a Bulgària. Por otra parte, los mesembrinos habrían fundado una pequeña colonia llamada . No fue teatro de ningún hecho especialmente destacado en su historia antigua. En 71 a. C. pasó a Roma como ciudad libre y permaneció en poder de romanos y bizantinos hasta el 812 cuando fue ocupada por los búlgaros, que la devolvieron en el 864, pero que la recuperaron pocos años después. En 1366 fue ocupada por los croatas dirigidos por Amadeo VI de Saboya y restituida a Bizancio. En 1453 cayó en manos de los otomanos y comenzó a decaer. El nombre eslavo Nesebar se impuso y se confirmó cuando en 1878 Bulgaria pasó a formar parte del principado autónomo de Rumelia Oriental y en 1886 se unió a Bulgaria. Mesembria was one of the cities, forming the Greek Pentapolis on the Euxine, the other four being Odessus, Tomi, Istriani and Apolloniatae. Mesembria is rarely mentioned in history, but it continued to exist till a late period, being recorded by Pomponius Mela, Pliny the Elder, and Ptolemy, and appearing in the Peutinger Table. The Dorian colonisation is dated to the beginning of the 6th century BCE, and evidence shows that it was an important trading centre from then on and a rival of Apollonia (Sozopol). It remained the only Dorian colony along the Black Sea coast, as the rest were typical Ionian colonies. At 425/4 BCE the town joined the Delian League, under the leadership of Athens.
