A member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of a constituency to a legislative assembly. Most often, the term refers to a subnational assembly such as that of a state, province, or territory of a country. Still, in a few instances, it refers to a national legislature.

Dans certains pays du monde anglo-saxon, le titre du membre d’une législature territoriale est une appellation officielle ou informelle généralement employée en anglais sous la forme d’initiales post-nominales pour qualifier l’un des élus d’une assemblée législative d’une entité fédérée ou locale. La notion s’oppose au niveau supérieur au titre de membre du Parlement (Member of Parliament en anglais), habituellement réservé aux membres des législatures fédérales ou nationales avec les initiales post-nominales de « MP » (prononcé [ɛmpiː]). Au niveau inférieur, les élus siégeant dans les conseils de gouvernement local sont le plus souvent qualifiés de conseillers (councillors en anglais, abrégé en « Cllr ») ou encore d’échevins (aldermen en anglais) ; ces appellations sont quant à elles utilisées avant l’identité de l’élu.
