La vicenda secondo alcuni avrebbe anche dato inizio al "fado" il canto di origine popolare dal tono melanconico e doloroso pervaso dal senso di fatalità di chi ha perduto i suoi cari in quella battaglia. O município formalizou a 21 de dezembro de 2012 a sua adesão à rede das Cidades Cittaslow com o intuito de preservar o seu património histórico-cultural, evitar um urbanismo excessivo e um decréscimo da qualidade de vida, colocando um especial ênfase na necessidade de construir edifícios que não superem uma determinada altura/número de andares, impulsionar uma mobilidade pragmática e estimular um desenvolvimento em relação simbiótica com o meio ambiente que vise preservar tanto o bem-estar da população como a integridade paisagística.
