The series aired on NBC from September 24, 2008 to March 4, 2009. The series stars Justin Bruening as Michael Traceur, the estranged son of Michael Knight; at the end of the pilot episode, Traceur renames himself Michael Knight II. The series also stars Deanna Russo as Sarah Graiman, Traceur's former girlfriend and love interest. Sarah is the daughter of Charles Graiman. Things get complicated when Mike discovers that one of the hostages is in allegiance with the criminals.

Unfortunately this turns out to be a complex ruse to allow Nikki to steal the classified personnel files of everyone at the SSC and then kidnap Agent Rivai. With the impending threat of their secure files being uploaded to the Internet, Mike and KITT must race to find them and save the day.

Mikes search of Coopertons personal belongings, which include Armani suits and $6000 french wine, lead him to conclude is he isn't actually the radicalist they believe. Unfortunately after he finds large quantities of explosives are somewhere in the camp, he is caught by Cassandra who reveals herself to be an undercover British secret agent posing as one of them. As Mike, Cassandra and KITT try to escape, KITT is severely damaged and forces the others to leave him and meet up later. As they learn that the group are leaving the compound on a mission, KITT discovers that Mike suspicions were right: Cooperton and Moss are Mercenaries wanted for bank robberies around the world, but why are they leading a militia-group, and why will they do with their explosives?

KITT has his own troubles when a pair of thugs try to steal him repeatedly, however it is during one of their attempts that he discovers something which proves that Sonny's Bar is far more valuable than anyone imagined. And also why someone is trying to force Julie out.

KARR forcefully seizes Torres as his new operator and has a final confrontation with Mike and KITT. Torres dies in the final battle. Meanwhile, Sarah uncovers a windfall of funds secretly left by her father, whose ultimate plan was for her to restart The Foundation for Law and Government at the SSC. В конце 2008 года вместо 22 эпизодов сериал решили сократить до 17. 19 мая 2009 года было заявлено, что сериал не будет продлён на второй сезон.

rdf:langString A NBC anunciou no dia 13 de Dezembro de 2007 o lançamento do primeiro episódio da 1ª temporada da nova série baseada na original dos anos 80 no dia 17 de Fevereiro de 2008 com um novo carro (um Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR), novos atores e uma participação especial de David Hasselhoff como Michael Knight. O primeiro episódio tem a duração de uma hora e vinte minutos. Justin Bruening é o ator principal na série como Mike Tracer, junto com Sarah Graimman (Deanna Russo). A audiência em torno do novo episódio foi um grande sucesso, sendo que no dia de exibição nos Estados Unidos, cerca de 12 milhões de televisões estavam sintonizados no episódio. Foi a maior audiência de um filme feito para a TV desde 2005. Em 4 de março de 2009, é exibido o último episódio da série nova, em junho de 2009, quando os horários da NBC para 2009-2010 foram lançados, não foi incluído Knight Rider, confirmando o cancelamento da série. No Brasil, a série é exibida pelo canal por assinatura Warner Channel. O filme piloto foi exibido no no dia 03 de abril de 2009, e a 1ª temporada, com 18 episódios é exibida todos os domingos, às 20hs, desde 05 de abril de 2009. Desde o dia 29 de agosto de 2009, a série era exibida na TV aberta brasileira pela rede Record TV, ela passou a ser exibida depois da série Xena, a Princesa Guerreira, às 15:45hs. Além de todas as mudanças que a série teve, no Brasil também o seu nome mudou, passando a chamar-se "A Nova Super Máquina". A série reestreou na emissora em 01 de dezembro de 2013, depois do especial A Nova Família Trapo. Em Portugal, a série estreou no canal Sci Fi como Knight Rider 2008 na televisão paga, onde só os assinantes do Meo tinham acesso a poder ver em Portugal. Mais tarde o canal generalista em sinal aberto TVI passou a transmitir a série, indo para o ar aos sábados às 17hs. Como no Brasil além de todas as mudanças que a série teve, em Portugal o seu nome também mudou, passando a chamar-se "O Novo Justiceiro". Durante o verão de 2012, a série foi transmitida no canal MOV. Atualmente a serie é exibida pelo canal SyFy todo domingo às 11:00hs, e pela rede Record TV também aos domingos às 23:15hs. O carro continha cinco lugares pois tinha sido criado como o carro especial.

Det har också visats ett pilotavsnitt av Knight Rider, vilken avgjorde om serien var värdig att visas, det vill säga hade tillräckligt många intresserade tittare. Det visade sig att det fanns fler intresserade tittare, och serien visades även i Sverige i TV6.
