George Pritchard (né à Birmingham le 1er août 1796 - mort à Hove le 6 mai 1883) était un missionnaire protestant britannique, installé dans le royaume de Tahiti et qui fut le principal conseiller de la reine Pomare IV. George Pritchard (1 August 1796 – 6 May 1883) was a British Christian missionary and diplomat. Pritchard was born in Birmingham and studied at the mission seminary at Gosport. In 1824 he travelled to the Society Islands to undertake work for the London Missionary Society. In 1837 he was appointed British consul at Tahiti, advising Queen Pōmare IV. The Islands were annexed by France in spite of his protests, in 1843. He was compelled to leave the islands in 1844 and returned to England. In 1845 he was appointed British consul at Samoa, resigning in 1856 and subsequently living in retirement in England. rdf:langString

rdf:langString George Pritchard (1 August 1796 – 6 May 1883) was a British Christian missionary and diplomat. Pritchard was born in Birmingham and studied at the mission seminary at Gosport. In 1824 he travelled to the Society Islands to undertake work for the London Missionary Society. In 1837 he was appointed British consul at Tahiti, advising Queen Pōmare IV. In 1844 he published his memoir The Missionary's Reward: Or, the Success of the Gospel in the Pacific, with a second printing in the year of publication.

Missionario anglicano e rappresentante del governo britannico a Tahiti (1824), divenne influente alla corte della regina Pomare IV che spinse a espellere i missionari cattolici francesi dal suo regno (1836). Espulso nel 1844 dalle autorità francesi dopo l'instaurazione del protettorato a Tahiti (1842-1847), riuscì a ottenere un indennizzo dalla Francia mettendo in difficoltà il re Luigi Filippo e il suo governo. In seguito fu nominato console a Samoa fino al 1856, allorquando si ritirò e tornò in Inghilterra dove morì nel 1883.
