The stadium is the home stadium of the Kansas Jayhawks football team. On December 20, 2017, KU Chancellor Douglas Girod announced that the stadium would be renamed in honor of KU alumnus and donor David G. Booth, who pledged a donation of $50 million to overhaul the facility.

Le stade est reconnu pour avoir été le premier stade construit sur un campus à l'ouest du fleuve Mississippi. Seules six autres équipes de division 1 NCAA jouent dans des stades plus anciens : Cincinnati (1916), Georgia Tech (1913), Mississippi State (1915), Oklahoma State (1920), Washington (1920) et Wisconsin (1917).
