Nel 2011 ha ricevuto la stella sulla Hollywood Walk of Fame.Nel maggio del 2015 ha ricevuto l'Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award in riconoscimento del suo attivismo sociale e il sostegno a diverse cause umanitarie, consegnato durante il Canadian Music Week al Canadian Music Industry & Broadcast Awards Gala. Oltre alla carriera di cantautore e musicista dalla fine degli anni novanta alterna quella di fotografo. Ha collaborato per Interview, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire e dal 2004 è cofondatore della rivista Zoo Magazine. Nel 2005 ha ricevuto a Berlino il Golden Camera. Il 16 settembre 2015 a Londra, ha ricevuto la Honorary Fellowship dalla Royal Photographic Society.
