The 2013 Sabah state election was held on Sunday, 5 May 2013 concurrently with the 13th Malaysian general election. 60 state seats were contested to elect state legislature in the Malaysian state of Sabah. This was the 12th state election in Sabah. The state legislative assembly was dissolved on 3 April 2013 following the announcement by Najib Razak to dissolve the federal Parliament earlier on the same day. Sabahans will also elect 25 representatives to the federal legislature which will be covered as part of the general election.

Las elecciones estatales de Sabah de 2013 tuvieron lugar el 5 de mayo del mencionado año, al mismo tiempo que las elecciones federales para el Dewan Rakyat de Malasia a nivel nacional. Se debían renovar los 60 escaños de la Asamblea Legislativa Estatal, que a su vez investiría a un Ministro Principal para el período 2013-2018, a no ser que la Asamblea se disolviera antes de tiempo y se convocara a nuevas elecciones. La participación se incrementó considerablemente, llegando a un 79.87% con respecto al 67.47% de 2008.

The 2013 Sabah state election was held on Sunday, 5 May 2013 concurrently with the 13th Malaysian general election. 60 state seats were contested to elect state legislature in the Malaysian state of Sabah. This was the 12th state election in Sabah. The state legislative assembly was dissolved on 3 April 2013 following the announcement by Najib Razak to dissolve the federal Parliament earlier on the same day. Sabahans will also elect 25 representatives to the federal legislature which will be covered as part of the general election. The 2008 election was won by the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition winning 59 out 60 seats. After the 2008 election, the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) withdrew from the BN coalition resulting in 2 state seats to move out of BN. As a result, the composition of parties in the state legislature prior to dissolution was BN with 57, SAPP with 2 and DAP with 1 seat. The final results shown that BN will keep the assembly with 48 seats, a decrease of 11 seats. The newly formed Pakatan Rakyat won 11 seats, comparing to 1 in the last assembly. Sabah-based State Reform Party also won 1 seat via its leader Jeffrey Kitingan, while another Sabah-based party SAPP was wiped out from the assembly.

Die Landesverfassung von Sabah sieht eine Legislaturperiode von fünf Jahren vor. Danach muss das Parlament vom Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah auf Vorschlag des Ministerpräsidenten von Sabah aufgelöst werden. Die Wahlen finden als einfache Mehrheitswahl unter der Aufsicht der malaysischen Wahlkommission (Election Commission of Malaysia) statt. Die Abgeordneten der Koalitionsregierung von Premierminister Najib Tun Razak gingen als Sieger aus den Wahlen zum Landesparlament hervor. Sie erreichten 48 von 60 Sitzen in der gesetzgebenden Versammlung und sind mit 80 % der Sitze im Besitz der absoluten Mehrheit.

El Barisan Nasional (Frente Nacional), oficialista a nivel federal, obtuvo otra resonante victoria con el 63.33% de los votos y conservó una mayoría de dos tercios de 48 escaños, aunque perdió 11 bancas con respecto a 2008. En las anteriores elecciones había obtenido casi la totalidad de los escaños. Sin embargo, esta pérdida fue relativa, pues la principal oposición, el Pakatan Rakyat (Pacto Popular) obtuvo solo el 32.36% de los votos, estancándose en el resultado de los anteriores comicios, mientras que el (STAR) y el (SAPP), recortaron el voto opositor y recibieron el 5.63% y el 3.69%, respectivamente, con un escaño ocupado por Jeffrey Kitingan, líder del STAR. El SAPP, que había abandonado el BN en 2008, perdió toda representación. La participación se incrementó considerablemente, llegando a un 79.87% con respecto al 67.47% de 2008.
