Wybory parlamentarne na Litwie w 1996 roku odbyły się w dwóch turach: 20 października i 10 listopada 1996. 70 mandatów rozdzielono w okręgu większościowym z list krajowych między ugrupowania, które przekroczyły wynoszący 5% próg wyborczy, 67 posłów wybrano w okręgach jednomandatowych. 4 mandaty nie zostały obsadzone na skutek zbyt niskiej frekwencji (skutkowało to rozpisaniem w tych okręgach nowych wyborów).

Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania in two stages on 20 October and 10 November 1996. All 141 seats in the Seimas were up for election; 70 based on proportional party lists and 71 in single member constituencies. Where no candidate gained more than 50% of the vote on 20 October, a run-off was held on 10 November. The first round of the elections was held concurrently with a referendum to amend Articles 55, 57 and 131 of the constitution, and a referendum on the use of proceeds from privatization. The second round was held concurrently with a referendum to amend Article 47 of the constitution. Due to a low turnout, none of the referendum questions succeeded in getting approval from at least 50% of registered voters. The result was a victory for the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Conservatives, which won 70 seats. They formed a coalition with second-place Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party. The Homeland Union benefited from dissatisfaction with the ruling Democratic Labour Party of Lithuania, which had failed to reignite the economy and was plagued by financial scandals. Gediminas Vagnorius was subsequently appointed as the Prime Minister.

El resultado fue una victoria para la Unión de la Patria - Conservadores Lituanos (TS-LKD), que obtuvo 70 escaños. Formaron una coalición con el segundo partido demócrata cristiano lituano. La Unión Nacional se benefició de la insatisfacción con el gobernante Partido Democrático Laborista de Lituania (LDDP), que no logró reactivar la economía y estuvo plagado de escándalos financieros. Gediminas Vagnorius fue designado posteriormente como Primer Ministro.

Wybory zakończyły się zdecydowanym zwycięstwem wywodzącego się z Sąjūdisu Związku Ojczyzny i porażką rządzących postkomunistów z Litewskiej Demokratycznej Partii Pracy.

В отличие от предыдущих выборов в 1992 году, заградительный барьер был увеличен до 5 % для всех без исключения партий, в том числе представлявших интересы национальных меньшинств, при этом к выборам были допущены только политические партии и их коалиции.
