WRUB (106.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Spanish hits format. Licensed to Sarasota, Florida, United States, it serves the Sarasota / Bradenton and Tampa Bay Areas. The station is currently owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station rebroadcasts on 103.1 W276CR Bradenton; that signal covers the Bradenton area, completely overlapping the coverage area of WRUB. WRUB's transmitter is located near the intersection of 33rd Street W and 8th Avenue W in Memphis, south of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, giving the station city-grade coverage not only to the Sarasota-Bradenton area, but also to the Tampa Bay area as well, as far north as Tampa and Largo. The station's coverage area extends north towards Lakeland and Pasco County, but faces interference from first-adjacents WGHR 106.3 Spring Hill and WXXL 106.7 Tavares (WRUB's sister station). On February 24, 2016, the then-WCTQ began simulcasting its country music format on 92.1 MHz Venice, Florida, replacing AC "The Coast" WLTQ-FM, and the station re-branded as "92.1 CTQ" in preparation for a new format on the 106.5 frequency. This put WCTQ back on its previous home on the dial, which it occupied from 1987 to 1999. On February 29, 2016, WCTQ at 106.5 changed their call letters to WLTQ-FM. On March 7, 2016, WLTQ-FM changed their format to Spanish hits, branded as "Rumba 106.5", targeting the Tampa Bay radio market to the north. On March 14, 2016, Rumba began simulcasting on 100.3 W262CP Bayonet Point, which simulcasts on 103.5-HD2; the translator, which broadcasts directionally to the south from its transmitter in Holiday and serves northern Pinellas County (but not its city of license of Bayonet Point, which is further north from Holiday), is essential, due to the aforementioned interference with the 106.5 frequency by WGHR. That same day, 106.5 changed its callsign to WRUB to better match the new format. WRUB has since discontinued broadcasting over W262CP, which now rebroadcasts Salem Media Group station 570 AM WTBN Pinellas Park.
