Es wurde in den 1880 durch die Neffen von , dem Gründer des Vassar College, als Wohnheim für männliche Senioren gegründet, war aber bis 1903 nicht voll ausgenutzt. Das Anwesen wurde den größten Teil des 20. Jahrhunderts als Altersheim genutzt und war am 13. April 1972 eines der ersten Gebäude, das in der City of Poughkeepsie in das National Register of Historic Places eingetragen wurde. Es wurde Contributing Property des Mill Street-North Clover Street Historic Districts, der später ebenfalls in das National Register aufgenommen wurde. Heute gehört es, wie das Gebäude des Vassar Institutes, einer ortsansässigen Künstlervereinigung, die einen Teil der Flächen in dem Gebäude an gemeinnützige Organisationen vermietet.

It was established in the 1880s by the nephews of Matthew Vassar, founder of Vassar College, as a home for elderly men but was not fully occupied until the early 20th century. It continued in that use for most of the century, and was among the first buildings in the city listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Later that year it also became a contributing property to the Mill Street-North Clover Street Historic District. Today it, like the Institute building, is owned by a local arts group, which rents some of the space in the building to other local non-profit organizations.
