Following the War, Cooley served as Commander, United States Fourth Fleet and Commandant, Naval Station Newport and completed his service as Deputy Commander, Western Sea Frontier and Deputy Commander Pacific Reserve Fleet with headquarters in San Francisco, California in June 1952.
