Zallinger was asked to paint this panoramic mural in the Great Hall of the Peabody Museum of Natural History while a poor student at Yale. His working original was painted first on a 10-foot roll of rag paper. The mural made his career. In 1953, Zallinger, then a famous artist and permanent employee of the Museum, was asked to paint some illustrations for fold-outs in the LIFE Magazine series. He used the original for this mural for The Great Age of Dinosaurs illustration in Part V.
