Ein Sportclub (SC) war im DDR-Sportsystem ein speziell geförderter, leistungssportlich orientierter Club. Sportclubs entstanden in der DDR ab 1954. Gegründet wurden sie anfangs von sogenannten Sportvereinigungen, die als Dachverbände für Sportgemeinschaften einzelner Gewerkschaftsbereiche dienten. Anfang der 1960er Jahre straffte die DDR-Sportführung das System und richtete Bezirks-Sportclubs ein. Die Sportclubs bestanden in dieser Form bis zur Wende 1990, als sie entweder aufgelöst wurden oder den Vereinsstatus nach westdeutschem Vorbild erhielten.

Een Sportclub was een prestatiegerichte sportvereniging in de DDR. Sportclubs ontstonden in de DDR vanaf 1954. Ze werden aanvankelijk opgericht als overkoepelende vereniging voor sportteams. Begin jaren zestig kwam er per district één sportclub, in de hoofdplaats. Deze sportclubs bestonden in deze vorm tot aan de Duitse hereniging in 1990 toen ze ofwel ontbonden werden of zich herstructureerden naar West-Duits voorbeeld.

A sports club (German: Sportclub) (SC) was a specially promoted sports club for elite sport in the East German sports system. The sports clubs emerged in East Germany after 1954. They were originally founded by the so-called sports associations (German: Sportvereinigung) (SV), which served as umbrella organizations for the sports communities (German: Sportgemeinschaft) (SG) or enterprise sports communities (German: Betriebssportgemeinschaft) (BSG) of the different trade union areas in East Germany. The East German sports management then tightened up the system in the early 1960s and instead set up regional district sports clubs.
