La Solemne Apertura de las Cortes Generales del Reino de España es un evento que tiene lugar aproximadamente en la segunda semana posterior a la investidura de un presidente del Gobierno tras la celebración de elecciones generales. Para esta se convocan a todos los diputados y senadores recién electos que conforman las Cortes Generales, así como al nuevo Gobierno. El evento se lleva a cabo en el hemiciclo del Congreso de los Diputados del Palacio de las Cortes. Se lleva a cabo entre grandes medidas de seguridad, tanto dentro del Palacio de las Cortes como fuera.

The Solemn Opening of the Parliament (Spanish: Solemne Apertura de las Cortes Generales) of the Kingdom of Spain is an event which takes place approximately in the second week after the investiture of the President of the Government. For this celebration, all the Deputies and Senators that forms the Cortes Generales are summoned, as well as the Government and the main officials of the Judiciary. The event takes place in the Chamber of Congress of the Deputies of the Palace of the Cortes. It is carried out between large security measures, both inside and outside of the Palace of the Cortes.

La Solemne Apertura de las Cortes Generales del Reino de España es un evento que tiene lugar aproximadamente en la segunda semana posterior a la investidura de un presidente del Gobierno tras la celebración de elecciones generales. Para esta se convocan a todos los diputados y senadores recién electos que conforman las Cortes Generales, así como al nuevo Gobierno. El evento se lleva a cabo en el hemiciclo del Congreso de los Diputados del Palacio de las Cortes. Se lleva a cabo entre grandes medidas de seguridad, tanto dentro del Palacio de las Cortes como fuera. Primero, el rey llega al Palacio de las Cortes luciendo las Medallas de Oro del Congreso y Senado y escoltado por la Escolta Real. Una vez allí, es recibido por el nuevo presidente del Gobierno y por el jefe del Estado Mayor de la Defensa; posteriormente, se escucha el Himno Nacional y el rey pasa revista al batallón de honores formado por miembros de los tres ejércitos y la Guardia Civil. A continuación, el monarca y su familia se acercan a las escalinatas del edificio de las Cortes donde saludan a los nuevos presidentes del Congreso y del Senado así como a los miembros de las nuevas Mesas de ambas Cámaras. Es entonces cuando se llega al momento más emocionante y simbólico del evento, que es la apertura de la Puerta de los Leones, entrada principal que solo se abre en ocasiones especiales. Finalmente, el monarca llega al hemiciclo del Congreso de los Diputados (pasando por el Salón de los Pasos Perdidos), donde comienzan los discursos, primero el del nuevo presidente de las Cortes Generales y, posteriormente, el del rey, que finaliza este último declarando la Apertura de las Cortes Generales para la Legislatura correspondiente. Para acabar el acto, se realizan una serie de retratos oficiales del rey con las principales autoridades de los tres poderes del Estado, además de saludar a los invitados. En el exterior, se lleva a cabo un desfile militar que finaliza el acto.

The event takes place in the Chamber of Congress of the Deputies of the Palace of the Cortes. It is carried out between large security measures, both inside and outside of the Palace of the Cortes. Firstly, The King arrives at the Palace of the Cortes, wearing the Congressional and Senate Gold Medals and escorted by the Royal Escort. Once there, he is received by the President of the Government and by the Chief of the Defence Staff; later, the national anthem is played and the King reviews the battalion of honors formed by members of the three armies and the Civil Guard. Then, the King and his family approach at the steps of the Palace of the Cortes where they greet the presidents (speakers) of the Congress and Senate as well as the members of the Bureaus of both chambers (In Spain, a Bureau is the governing body of a legislative chamber, formed by the President of the chamber, the vice presidents and the secretaries). It is in that moment when it is reached, according to some, the most exciting and symbolic moment of the event, which is the opening of the Doors of the Lions of the Congress. This doors are only open in very special moments. Finally, the Monarch arrives at the hemicycle of the Congress of the Deputies, where he receives a great ovation, and then starts the speeches; the first is the speech of the President of the Congress and later, the King's speech. To finish off the act, a few official portraits of the King with the main authorities of the three powers of the State are taken, in addition to greeting the guests. In the outside, a military parade is carried out to finalizes the act.
