Smit Singh (born 18 January 1991) is a State Public Policy Advisor, Strategic Communications Expert, International Sportsperson and was Indian National Congress MLA candidate for Punjab Vidhan Sabha General Elections 2022. Singh studied at Somerville College, University of Oxford. Smit Singh’s father Dhanwant Singh was a two-time Independent legislator from Dhuri, Punjab, he is recalled for his honesty and development works in the region of Punjab, India, was fondly named by the people “Sarkawala MLA” (MLA of Roads) for the hundreds of kilometres of roads and schools built in his tenure between 1992-2002. Only three weeks before the polling day, on 26 January 2022, Smit Singh was announced as an Indian National Congress MLA candidate from Amargarh Assembly Constituency for Punjab Vidhan Sabha as stated by All India Congress Committee Punjab In-charge Harish Chaudhary and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu to further Singh’s Public Policy work in solving Punjab’s financial crisis, generate more revenue for the state, policy measures for a cooperative movement and to increase income of farmers. He subsequently lost the elections, while Indian National Congress was voted out of Power in the State.
