Das SWR2 Archivradio ist ein am 19. Juli 2007 mit Unterstützung des Deutschen Rundfunkarchivs (DRA) gegründetes multimediales Angebot des Südwestrundfunks. Es dient dem Zweck, historisch bedeutsame Tondokumente aus deutschen Rundfunkarchiven und anderen Audiobeständen öffentlich zugänglich zu machen. Initiator war der Rundfunkjournalist Maximilian Schönherr, die redaktionelle Zuständigkeit und Weiterentwicklung des Angebots übernahm die Redaktion SWR2 Wissen.

It specialises in streaming historic original sounds, interviews, speeches in German language from German audio archives. The web radio stream is accompanied by a web portal which provides written information about the currently aired sound segment. A major principle of Archivradio is that original sounds are unedited and played back in full length.
