His non-travel essays and criticism have appeared in The New Yorker, The Believer, Sports Illustrated, The Nation, and The Atlantic. Potts directs the annual Paris Writing Workshop, and he was the 2011-2012 ArtsEdge Writer-in-Residence at the University of Pennsylvania. He more recently taught nonfiction writing at Yale University.
