Il était aussi Sénateur du Royaume de Sardaigne. Il bâtit sa fortune à Paris où il s'exila à la suite d'un accident tragique qui causa accidentellement la mort d'un domestique par arme à feu.

Raffaele was born at Genoa from an aristocratic family, he was a senator of the Kingdom of Sardinia and had the title of Duke of Galliera from 18 September 1838 at the behest of Pope Gregory XVI. The title was recognized by King Charles Albert of Sardinia on 18 July 1843, he was also created Prince of Lucedio. Raffaele made his economic fortune in Paris, where he lived most of the time.

Di famiglia aristocratica, fu Senatore del Regno di Sardegna ed ebbe il titolo di Duca di Galliera dal 18 settembre 1838 per volontà di papa Gregorio XVI. Il titolo fu riconosciuto da Carlo Alberto di Savoia il 18 luglio 1843. Il 26 marzo 1875 venne nominato Principe di Lucedio. La sua vita fu funestata dalla morte precoce di due dei tre figli, mentre il terzo ripudiò il nome del casato, ponendo fine alla dinastia.
