The cars are currently Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 991.2) with 4.0 liters, flat-6 naturally aspirated engines that produce 485 bhp (362 kW) and 480 N·m. Inspired by the success of the Porsche Carrera Cup in France and Germany, the first race in the Scandinavian edition was held on May 1, 2004.Since then it has been one of the support series for the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Among the competitors are former Speedway World Champion Tony Rickardsson and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden.There has also been a number of famous guest drivers, like Mika Häkkinen, Kenny Bräck and Dennis Hauger. The series is organised and maintained by Swedish racing team Flash Engineering that took over running of the series in 2005 when the series was close to bankruptcy. In 2009 the series became the biggest Carrera Cup-series in the world with 35 entries. The series is currently shown live on Viasat Motor.

Alla förare i Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia kör Porsche 911 GT3 Cup en bil som kommit i flera olika modeller sedan starten. Sedan starten 2004 har trion Robin Rudholm, Jocke Mangs och Johan Kristoffersson lyckats vinna mästerskapet tre gånger var. Jämte ovan nämnda mästare har kända förare som exempelvis Mika Häkkinen, Kenny Bräck, Tony Rickardsson, Prins Carl Philip Bernadotte, Felix Rosenqvist, Stig Blomqvist och Jacques Villeneuve, Andreas Mikkelsen, Mads Östberg, Jan Magnussen, Björn Wirdheim, Thed Björk deltagit i Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. Sedan 2018 driver Porsche Sverige mästerskapet i egen regi. I Carrera Cup Scandinavia finns både Porsche Approved cup ( för bilar 991 generation-1) samt Masters Cup (För förare över 40 år gamla) som klasser i klassen. Utöver mästerskapet driver Porsche Sverige även talangprogrammet Driver Development där fem förare får hjälp av en rutinerad stab. Där Björn Wirdheim ansvarar för förarcoaching, Thomas Fogdö finns med som mental tränare och Marcus Fasth hjälper till som ingenjör. 2020 innehåller programmet, Edvin Hellsten, Hugo Andersson, Pontus Fredericsson, Hampus Ericsson och Emil Heyerdahl.
