Le lancer au baseball désigne le geste du lanceur lorsqu'il envoie la balle vers le batteur. La balle lancée est rattrapée par le receveur. Les lancers ont pour but de produire du jeu, tout en mettant le batteur en difficulté. Pour atteindre cet objectif, les lanceurs varient leurs lancers, tant au niveau de leur localisation dans, ou à l'extérieur de la zone de prises, qu'au niveau de la vitesse des lancers, ou par rapport à leur trajectoire.

Existen varios tipos de lanzamiento que realizan los lanzadores los cuales presentan diversas características de velocidad, movimiento, trayectoria y, de acuerdo a la Maduro y me lo dijo que no era verdad que no me gusta o son efectuados por la posición de la mano,la muñeca y el lo o son efectuados, por la posición de la mano, la muñeca o el brazo. Dichas variaciones se utilizan para confundir al bateador de distintas maneras y, en última instancia, sacar al bateador o hacerlo out. Para lograr la mencionada variación del lanzamiento se puede recurrir además al tipo de agarre que se le haga a la costura de la bola.

Pitchers throw a variety of pitches, each of which has a slightly different velocity, trajectory, movement, hand position, wrist position and/or arm angle. These variations are introduced to confuse the batter and ultimately aid the defensive team in getting the batter or baserunners out. To obtain variety, and therefore enhance defensive baseball strategy, the pitcher manipulates the grip on the ball at the point of release. Variations in the grip cause the seams to catch the air differently, thereby changing the trajectory of the ball, making it harder for the batter to hit. The selection of which pitch to use can depend on a wide variety of factors including the type of hitter who is being faced; whether there are any base runners; how many outs have been made in the inning; and the current score. Pitchers may bounce their pitches in the dirt before they reach the batter, but these pitches are called balls even if they pass through the strike zone.
