In Mémoires d'un passant (Calmann-Lévy, 1893), he dedicated a tasty portrait to Bernard-François Balssa, Honoré de Balzac's father whom he considers as a prodigious person. He wrote under two pseudonyms: Alpha and Eugène Duvernay.
