Originally owned and operated by a private company, SCC Nautical Transport Services Incorporated, the service was suspended in February 2011, but was reopened on April 28, 2014, and is currently owned and operated by the Metro Manila Development Authority. Although the service is commonly referred to as a ferry, it is more akin to a water bus given its multiple stops.
