Su primer nombre fue Museum of Broadcasting (Museo de la Radiodifusión). El Museo de la Televisión y la Radio pasó a llamarse Paley Center for Media el 5 de junio de 2007, para incorporar también a las nuevas tecnologías tales como Internet, streaming o podcasting, y por otro parte, para convertirse en un espacio en el cual los profesionales y creativos puedan discutir y debatir sobre el cambiante panorama de los medios.
