Metropolitan Board of Works (MBW) byl hlavní správní institucí Londýna od roku 1855 do ustavení správní organizace hrabství Londýn - rady hrabství Londýn v roce 1889. Jeho hlavním úkolem bylo zajistit infrastrukturu pro rychle se rozvíjející Londýn.

Der Metropolitan Board of Works (MBW; deutsch etwa Großstädtische Baubehörde) war ein Zweckverband der Metropole London, der von 1855 bis 1889 existierte. Er war zuständig für die Metropolis, bestehend aus den Cities of London und Westminster sowie umliegenden Parishes in Middlesex, Surrey und Kent, dem heutigen Inner London. Hauptaufgabe des MBW war es, in dem damals in viele eigenständige Gemeinden zersplitterten Ballungsraum Infrastrukturbauten zentral zu planen und zu bauen, um mit dem raschen Wachstum Schritt halten zu können. Die Vertreter des MBW wurden nicht gewählt, sondern ernannt. Die dadurch fehlende Transparenz war die Hauptursache für die in der Spätphase um sich greifende Korruption und den Ersatz des MBW durch den London County Council.

The Metropolitan Board of Works (MBW) was the principal instrument of local government in a wide area of Middlesex, Surrey, and Kent, defined by the Metropolis Management Act 1855, from December 1855 until the establishment of the London County Council in March 1889. Its principal responsibility was to provide infrastructure to cope with the rapid growth of the metropolis, which it accomplished with varying degrees of success. The MBW was an appointed rather than elected body. This lack of accountability made it unpopular with Londoners, especially in its latter years, when it fell prey to corruption.
