Martin Dies Jr. (5 novembre 1901 - 14 novembre 1972) est un politicien du Texas et un membre démocrate de la Chambre des représentants des États-Unis. Il est élu et réélu de nombreuses fois, de 1931 à 1959. En 1941 et 1957, il se présente deux fois comme candidat au poste de président des États-Unis, mais est battu à chaque fois. McCormack initiierten „Committee on Un-American Activity“ („Ausschuss zur Untersuchung unamerikanischer Umtriebe“) übernahm.Dies behielt den Vorsitz bis 1944, drückte dem Ausschuss seinen Stempel auf, so dass er auch unter der Bezeichnung „Dies Committee“ („Dies-Ausschuss“) bekannt wurde.Dieser – 1945 in House Un-American Activities Committee (Ausschuss für unamerikanische Umtriebe) umbenannte und von da an ständige – Ausschuss entwickelte sich unter Dies' Vorsitz zu einem der maßgeblichen Instrumente, mit denen die hysterischen Verfolgungen der so genannten McCarthy-Ära durchgeführt wurden.
