Malik or Malak is a gotra of Jats found in Haryana, India. The Malik Jats were originally called Ghatwal (or Gathwala); they proudly started calling themselves malik ("lord"). They were zamindars (landowners) during the Mughal era.They have a huge population of over 116 villages , 64 villages in Sonipat and 56 in Shamli (Muzaffarnagar). They were also known as Gathwala.
