It was launched in June 2011 and remained in orbit until October 2011. Kosmos 2472 was launched from Site 16/2 at Plesetsk Cosmodrome. A Soyuz-U carrier rocket was used to perform the launch, which took place at 16:00 UTC on 27 June 2011. The launch successfully placed the satellite into low Earth orbit. It subsequently received its Kosmos designation, and the international designator 2011-028A. The United States Space Command assigned it the Satellite Catalog Number 37726.
