He served as a member of the Council of the District of Columbia from January 1993 to January 2005, and was an unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of the District of Columbia in 1998. In 2017, Chavous was named President of Stride K12, Inc., a technology-based education company and the nation's leading provider of proprietary curriculum and online school programs for students in pre-K through high school. Chavous oversees all of the services that the company provides to approximately 200,000 students nationwide.
