He is a Republican who represents the 6th district, which is a northeast area outside Sacramento, composed of Sacramento suburbs, exurbs, and rural areas. Kiley was a candidate to replace California governor Gavin Newsom in a voter-initiated recall election which was held on September 14, 2021.
