Ivan Gantschev (4 January 1925 – 29 June 2014) was a Bulgarian-German illustrator and author of children's books. Ivan Gantschev was born in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. His father was a lawyer and his mother a school teacher. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. After leaving the Academy he worked as an artist and graphic designer. In 1967 he left Bulgaria and settled in Frankfurt, Germany where he lived until his death in 2014. In 1973 he published his first children's book "Mäusemax fliegt um die Welt " with Gakken Co Ltd., Japan.
