For the 2009 season, the Intense Football League merged with United Indoor Football to create another version of the Indoor Football League. With construction continuing on Dr Pepper Arena into the 2009 season, the Thunder opted to sit the season out and did not participate in the 2009 IFL season. However, the team never returned for any other season. The team was owned by former Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints Jake Reed, who purchased the team during the 2007 season.
