Rendez-vous de tous les amateurs de polar pendant vingt-six ans et au cours de vingt-cinq éditions (pas de festival en 1991 pour cause de guerre du Golfe), le festival est longtemps associé à de grands noms du cinéma, tels Claude Chabrol et Terence Young. Il a également permis d'assister aux débuts de réalisateurs aujourd'hui reconnus tels Xavier Gens (pour son court-métrage Au petit matin en 2006) et Joe Carnahan (pour Narc en 2002 et Mi$e à prix en 2007).
