It was founded in 1923 as the political wing of . At the time of the founding of the party, 3 Venstre MPs joined it. In 1939 the name was changed to Farmers' Party. The new name was inspired by agrarian parties in other Nordic countries, such as the Farmers' League in Sweden. In 1948 Axel Hartel, former MP of the party, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, the harshest punishment for political collaboration meted out after the war.

Det Freie Folkeparti (Partit del Poble Lliure) fou un partit polític danès fundat el 1923 com a ala política del Landbrugernes Sammenslutning. Immediatament se li uniren tres diputat del Venstre. Era inspirat en els partits agraris escandinaus com la Lliga de Grangers de Suècia. El juny del 1939 va formar un gran front comú amb el Partit Nacional Socialista dels Treballadors Danesos (DNSAP) i intentaren elaborar una constitució nacionalsocialista. El maig de 1940 ambdós partits formaren una aliança, però durant l'ocupació el seu suport va decaure, com es va veure en les eleccions de 1943. A les eleccions legislatives de 1945 ja no es va presentar. El 1948 un dels seus diputats, , fou condemnat a 14 anys de presó, la pena més dura per col·laboració a Dinamarca.

In May 1940 the party, LS and DNSAP formed an alliance, and tried to topple the coalition government. In the June 1939 election the groups created a common front, and worked for the creation of a National Socialist constitution. During the war and occupation, the political support for the party dwindled, especially after 29 August 1943. The party became politically isolated. It did not contest the 1945 election. In 1948 Axel Hartel, former MP of the party, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, the harshest punishment for political collaboration meted out after the war.
