As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team for sixteen years, Keher won nine Railway Cup medals, a record for a Leinster player. At club level he won one championship medal with Rower-Inistioge. Keher's career tally of 35 goals and 336 points was a record score which stood until 20 June 2010 when it was surpassed by Henry Shefflin. Throughout his career Keher made 50 championship appearances, a Kilkenny record which stood until 25 July 2004 when it was surpassed by D. J. Carey. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1977 championship. In retirement from playing, Keher temporarily became involved in team management and coaching. As joint-coach to the Kilkenny senior team with Pat Henderson, he helped guide the team to the All-Ireland title in 1979. During his playing days, Keher won four Cú Chulainn awards and five All-Star awards, as well as being named Texaco Hurler of the Year in 1972. He also met and tutored Muhammad Ali in hurling in 1972, when he visited Dublin. He has been repeatedly voted onto teams made up of the sport's greats, including at corner-forward on the Hurling Team of the Century in 1984 and the Hurling Team of the Millennium in 2000.

Fear spóirt Éireannach é Éadbhard Peadar Ó Cathaoir (Béarla: Edward Peter Keher), a rugadh ar an 11 Samhain 1941 in Inis Tíog, Contae Chill Chainnigh. Imreoir iomána cáiliúil agus rathúil ab ea Eddie, mar a tugtar air, leis a chlub áitiúil idir na 1950idí agus na 1980idí, agus le foireann idir-chontae Chill Chainnigh idir na blianta 1959 agus 1977. Sa lá atá inniu ann, feictear ar Ó Cathaoir mar dhuine de na himreoirí is fearr riamh. Tá a stádas mar fhathach an iomána soiléir. I ngairmréim idir-chontae a mhair ar feadh ocht mbliana déag, tá gach duais atá le fáil sa spórt buaite aige - deich mbonn i gCraobh Laighean, sé bhonn i gCraobh na hÉireann, dhá bhonn sa tSraith Náisiúnta agus naoi mbonn i gCorn an Iarnróid. Is é an t-imreoir leis an líon is mó pointí gnóthaithe i stair nua-aimseartha an iomána - 36 cúl agus 207 cúilín as 50 cluiche. D'aimsigh sé dhá chúl agus aon chúilín déag i gcluiche ceannais na hÉireann sa bhliain 1972, éacht a mhair mar churiarracht go dtí 1989 nuair a bhí sé sáraithe ag Nicky English (Tiobraid Árann). Is iomaí duaiseanna agus honóracha a bhronnadh ar Ó Cathaoir taobh amuigh den pháirc imeartha chomh maith. Ba thréimhse an-rathúil é na seachtóidí do, ina bhuaigh sé an gradam Sárimreoir na Bliana cúig bliana i ndiaidh a gcéile idir 1971 agus 1975, leis an ngradam chomh maith sa bhliain 1972. Tháinig honór eile chuige sa bhliain 1984, nuair a ainmníodh é ag lántosaí clé i bhFoireann an Chéid agus ag lantosaí deas ar Foireann Iománaíochta na Mílaoise sa bhliain 1999. Chomh maith le sin, tá an cúl cáiliúil a fuair sé ón dtaobhlíne i gcluiche ceannais na hÉireann na bliana 1972 le feiceáil ar an liosta de na atá ag RTÉ. Bhí Ó Cathaoir ina ábhar don chlár teilifíse Laochra Gael ar TG4 in Éirinn, a craoladh don chéad uair ar an 9 Samhain, 2002. Sa chlár seo, rinneadh cur síos ar a shaol imeartha, le agallamh leis féin agus imreoirí eile.
