Ĝi estas nomita laŭ la historia provinco Sjuniko; la 9-a provinco de la Reĝlando Armenio. La dioceza ĉefsidejo situas en la urbo Goris. La sidejo de la episkopo estas la katedralo Sankta Gregorio. La diocezo estis establita la 30-an de majo 1996. Ekde ĝia kreo ĝis decembro 2010, episkopo Abraham Mkrtĉjan funkciis kiel ĝia primaso. Pastro Zaven Jaziĉjan sukcedas lin kiel primaso de la diocezo.

It is named after the historic province of Syunik; the 9th province of the Kingdom of Armenia. The diocesan headquarters are located in the town of Goris. The seat of the bishop is the Saint Gregory Cathedral. The diocese was established on 30 May 1996. Since its creation until December 2010, bishop has served as its primate. Rev. Fr. Zaven Yazichyan succeed him as primate of the diocese.
