Chenoprosopus is a genus of extinct cochleosauridae that lived during late Carboniferous and early Permian periods. Two known species of Chenoprosopus are C. milleri and C. lewisi. Chenoprosopus lewisi was described in the basis of a virtually complete skull with maximum skull length of 95 mm. It is significantly smaller than Chenoprosopus milleri and was differentiated from that taxon by Hook (1993) based on sutural patterns of the skull roof. Hook also mentioned the reduced size of the vomerine tusks differentiated C. lewisi from C. milleri, but the different size of these tusks may be different ontogenetic stages of growth. Chenoprosopus és un gènere extint d'amfibi temnospòndil. Chenoprosopus s'assembla al gènere europeu , tot i que les restes de l'amfibi trobat als Estats Units s'assemblen més al gènere Cacops encara que difereix en les narius més petites i en la seva posició posterior. L'any 1911, Paul Miller va descobrir a Nou Mèxic part del crani d'una espècie nova de Chenoprosopus i el va anomenar Chenoprosopus milleri. El crani era molt llarg i estret, (28cm de llarg i 5.4cm d'ample). Les dents eren fortes i còniques, lleugerament corbades i d'aproximadament 19 mm de llarg. Al lloc es va trobar una sola vèrtebra, que és semblant a les vèrtebres de Diadectes.

The Chenoprosopus name means as “goose short face” based on Greek cheno as a goose and prosopus as a short face.
