November 1930 wurde Williamson in den US-Senat gewählt. Er übernahm dort den Platz von John Marshall Robsion. Dieser wiederum hatte als Nachfolger des zurückgetretenen Frederic Mosley Sackett amtiert, jedoch gegen Marvel M. Logan die Wiederwahl verfehlt und daraufhin ebenfalls sein Mandat niedergelegt. So nahm Williamson den vakanten Sitz für die kurze Dauer vom 1. Dezember 1930 bis zum 3. März 1931 ein; als Kandidat für eine volle Amtsperiode war er nicht in Betracht gezogen worden. Nach dem Ausscheiden aus dem Senat nahm Ben M. Williamson seine geschäftlichen Aktivitäten in Catlettsburg wieder auf.

Williamson was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate on November 4, 1930, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Frederic M. Sackett and his initial replacement by John M. Robsion. He served only from December 1, 1930, to March 3, 1931, and was not a candidate for election to a full term. Afterwards Williamson resumed the wholesale hardware business at Ashland, with residence in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, and was interested financially in various other business enterprises. He died in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was interred in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
