Falcon Field was named by the first city clerk, Emelil Fancher, in honor of the Atlanta Falcons. It is the location for the National Weather Service's Atlanta forecast office, which serves almost all of northern and central Georgia.Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, Falcon Field is assigned FFC by the FAA but has no designation from the IATA.
