Angel Chua Alcala, ONS, (born March 1, 1929) is a Filipino biologist who was named a National Scientist of the Philippines in 2014. Alcala is known for his fieldwork to build sanctuaries and to promote biodiversity in the aquatic ecosystems of the Philippines. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Advisers at the Angelo King Center for Research and Environmental Management located in Silliman University. Responsible for publishing more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and books, his biological contributions to the environment and ecosystems have made him a renowned hero for natural sciences in the Philippines.

Na het behalen van zijn bachelordiploma in biologie (magna cum laude) op de Silliman University in 1951, werd Alcala biologieleraar op een school in Marbel op Mindanao. Na korte tijd werd hij echter gevraagd door de Silliman University om daar les te geven. Het was ook in deze periode, tijdens een korte vakantie voor zijn terugkeer naar Silliman, dat Alcala Naomi Lusoc, een oude jeugdvriendin tegenkwam. De twee trouwden kort daarna op 21 april 1952 en hun eerste kind Estrilda, genoemd naar een vogelgeslacht, werd in september 1953 in Dumaguete City geboren. Ze zouden later nog twee dochters en drie zonen krijgen genaamd: Angelo, Grace, Moses, Emily en Ely. Alcala is momenteel directeur van het CHED Zonal Research Center van de Silliman University.
