The Abyssinian waxbill (Estrilda ochrogaster) is a species of estrildid finch found in southeast Sudan and Ethiopia. This species was formally described in 1897 by the Italian zoologist Tommaso Salvadori under the binomial name Estrilda ochrogaster. The specific epithet combines the Ancient Greek ōkhros meaning "yellow-ochre" or "pale yellow" with gastēr meaning "belly". The type locality is "Northern Abyssinia", now Eritrea. The species is monotypic: no subspecies are recognised. The Abyssinian waxbill is sometimes considered as a subspecies of the fawn-breasted waxbill (Estrilda paludicola). rdf:langString
