El 31è Festival Internacional de Cinema de Berlín va tenir lloc entre el 12 i el 23 de febrer de 1982. L'Os d'Or fou concedit a la pel·lícula alemanya L'ansietat de Veronika Voss dirigida per Rainer Werner Fassbinder. va introduir una nova secció al festival, que fou reanomenada Panorama en 1986. Es va mostrar al festival una retrospectiva dedicada al director alemany Curtis Bernhardt titulada Insurrecció d'Emocions juntament amb pel·lícules infantils de l'Alemanya Oriental.

Die Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin 1982 fanden vom 12. Februar bis zum 23. Februar 1982 statt. Bei der Berlinale kam es bereits vor dem Festival zu aufgeregten Diskussionen. Festivalleiter Moritz de Hadeln hatte den amerikanischen Film Mit dem Wind nach Westen für den Wettbewerb abgelehnt. Der Film handelt von einer Familie, die mit einem Heißluftballon aus der DDR flieht. Die Springer-Presse verurteilte diese Entscheidung als Anbiederung an die DDR. Axel Cäsar Springer selbst organisierte die Deutschland-Premiere des Films am Eröffnungstag der Berlinale als Gegenveranstaltung.

32. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Berlinie odbył się w dniach 12-23 lutego 1982 roku. W konkursie głównym zaprezentowano 21 filmów pochodzących z 17 różnych krajów. Jury pod przewodnictwem amerykańskiej aktorki Joan Fontaine przyznało nagrodę główną festiwalu, Złotego Niedźwiedzia, niemieckiemu filmowi w reżyserii Rainera Wernera Fassbindera. Drugą nagrodę w konkursie głównym, Srebrnego Niedźwiedzia − Nagrodę Specjalną Jury, przyznano polskiemu filmowi Dreszcze w reżyserii Wojciecha Marczewskiego.

The 32nd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 12–23 February 1982. The Golden Bear was awarded to the West German film Veronika Voss directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The Honorary Golden Bear (Goldener Ehrenbär) was introduced for the first time in this edition to pay tribute to important figures in the world of film. The award has been presented for an exceptional artistic career and is given to the guest of honour of the Homage. In this edition it was awarded to American actor James Stewart.

Direttore del festival è stato per il terzo anno Moritz de Hadeln. L'Orso d'oro è stato assegnato al film tedesco Veronika Voss di Rainer Werner Fassbinder. L'Orso d'oro alla carriera, introdotto in questa edizione per la prima volta, è stato assegnato all'attore statunitense James Stewart al quale è stata dedicata la sezione Homage.
