In the 2016 NAIA Football National Championship, the Cougars defeated the Baker Wildcats, 38-17. Kevin Donley was voted by the American Football Coaches Association as the 2016 NAIA National Coach of the Year. Donley was also granted a five-year contract extension after the 2016 season.
